Have the hard conversation, and have it go the way you hoped.

Feedback to a peer, the colleague who took credit, the workload that’s breaking you. Say it out loud to someone who reacts like a real person, find what’s really bothering them, and walk in with your first sentence.

Start with how you sound: one question, 60 seconds. Then rehearse the conversation itself.

Rehearsal brief

Out loud · live

With a peer in product marketing, Olivia

A colleague took credit for your work

In yesterday’s leadership review, Olivia presented the pricing analysis you built as her team’s work. You’ve asked her for fifteen minutes.

Your goal: Olivia acknowledges your part and agrees how credit is handled from now on.

Their real worry

Hidden. Ask the right questions and they’ll tell you. Miss it, and you can rewind.

WHAT THEY SAY

“I think you’re overreacting.”

WHAT THEY MEAN

I don’t feel heard either.

Rehearse until you can hear it, then answer that.

The talk you keep putting off

  • A colleague presented your work as theirs, and you said nothing, again.
  • You rehearsed the feedback in the shower, then softened it until it disappeared.
  • Your manager messages at 11 p.m., and you answer every one.
  • You finally raised it, it turned into a fight, and now it’s worse.

Your 30 days: Hard talks, handled

“I can raise the thing I’ve been avoiding, stay calm, and come out with an agreement instead of a fight.”

About 15 minutes a day. Each week ends by replaying day 1, so you hear what changed.

  1. WEEK 1 · DAYS 1–7

    Say why you’re here

Open the conversation you’ve been avoiding: one issue, the goal you share, and what you hope to leave with.

  2. WEEK 2 · DAYS 8–14

    Say what happened

Describe one behaviour and its impact as facts, then ask, so feedback becomes a problem you solve together.

  3. WEEK 3 · DAYS 15–21

    Name it, own it

Name the feeling in the room and own your part, so the other person can hear the rest, even when it gets heated.

  4. WEEK 4 · DAYS 22–30

    Ask for what you need

Hold your position without heat, trade instead of caving, and leave with who does what by when.

Two more you’ll rehearse

Each person has a reason for pushing back that they won’t say out loud. Find it and the conversation turns.
  1. Feedback to a peer who talks over people

Honest feedback with no authority. With a fellow project manager at an engineering consultancy, Leah.

Their real worry: you’ll have to find it.

  2. Raise the workload before it breaks you

Ask them to choose, not to rescue you. With your manager, Femi, Director of Student Services at a college.

Their real worry: you’ll have to find it.

Questions

Is my voice recorded?

We never store your recordings. How you sound (pace, pauses, pitch, loudness) is measured on your device. In rehearsals, your words are transcribed and sent to our AI provider to play the other person. We keep your scores and short summaries, not your voice.

What if the real person reacts differently?

They will, a little. The point is to have said the hard sentence out loud once already, and to have practised finding what’s underneath when they push back.

Can I rehearse my exact situation?

Yes. Beyond the ready-made conversations, you can describe your own situation and the person, and rehearse that.

Start with 60 seconds.

One question out loud. Your pace, your ums, how fast you start.
